To Parents/Guardians of 8th Graders,

As you are aware, we have already begun the transitioning process from STEM Academy to Sandwich High
School for current 8th graders. The first step in this process is shadowing, which I have attached a schedule for.
Shadowing is going to take place by advisory, and so far, has been an excellent experience for students who
have already had the opportunity.
The next step in the transitioning process is group scheduling meetings. These meetings will happen December
16th and 17th. The purpose of the group meetings are to register students to Powerschool and put in course
requests. The Powerschool portal will be open through February, and course requests can be reviewed and
edited up until the portal is closed. We encourage you to sit down with your student, after the 16th and 17th, to
review the course requests they have submitted. We will be going into all of the 8th grade history classes to meet
with students. On Friday December 18th, from 9:00-10:00AM, SHS school counselors will host Coffee with
Counselors for parents/guardians of 8th graders. During this time we will be able to answer any Powerschool
questions you may have.
Nothing that your student submits through Powerschool for class requests will be a permanent decision, as we
need parent/guardian input to create schedules as well. I have schedule individual parent meetings for each 8th
grader and their parent/guardian (the meeting schedule will be mailed to you). The individual parent meetings
will be 10 minutes each and the purpose of the meetings are to review class options and answer questions you
may have. We encourage you to attend the individual parent/guardian meetings.
