Summary:
Overall, the inhabitants of Earth have developed far since the time when there was no
free oxygen on the Earth. Starting four billion years ago, life originated with prokaryotes
dominating life as single-celled organisms. Around 2.7 billion years ago, the atmosphere
became oxidized and oxygen became free throughout the planet. Soon after,
prokaryotes developed into multi-celled organisms, or eukaryotes, with internal
membranes. Following this was the Cambrian Explosion, where early mammals began to
evolve and diversity began between animals.
