1. How often is writing used in communication?

1. All the time.


2. What level of writing do you believe students need to excel in communications?
2. Able to write research papers, willing to want to improve. (Undergrads)
3. What can I do to best prepare myself for writing in communications?
3. Make sure to know the assignments, and that you really understand the assignments. When
taking notes write what is important to teachers. Take a writing class; identify your weaknesses,
because its different for everybody.
4. What classes do you teach/have you taught?
4. Everything (Seriously) In Communication Studies and Journalism.
5. What was your writing experience in college?
5. In college I got my degree in Journalism, so I needed to write a handful of research papers. I
liked writing a lot, but I easily overcame any struggles I encountered.
6. Is being a good writer important in communications?
6. Yes. Communication is important whether its speaking or writing.
7. Is there a preferred writing style in Communications?
7. APA format is the academic style.
8. What are the biggest challenges in Communications?
8. The biggest problem is getting your point across whether you are talking or writing. It takes
more than one shot; you will always need to be aware of feedback. Theres always a difference
between written and verbal communication. You also need to look over your word choice and
organization of material/topics.
9. What fieldwork or internships do you recommend?
9. Any and all.
10. How many years of education did it take you to get your coms degree?

10. I have a degree in Journalism. My bachelors took 4 and a half years, an additional 2 and a
half years for masters.
11. How long have you been a teacher here at Sac State?
11. This is my 20th year teaching here at CSUS.
