Cybersecurity after Paris attacks:

info-sharing in the spotlight

by. Jeremy Seth Davis SCmagazine
The attacks in Paris are a reminder of the vulnerable state the world is in. It is not just a
United States problem with terrorism, it comes in many forms and all are a potential
victim. In many respects the cowardly attacks are a means of getting to one victim
through another.
The U.S. has expanded its collection
of information and begun to share it
with Paris. At the summit in Antayla
Turkey Obama presented an initiative
to streamline the information-sharing
process. Other countries were in
compliance of the idea such as Israel
where Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu did in fact order Israeli
Intelligence forces to assist France.
It is evident that surveillance measured need to be addressed and a solution be found
that will protect nations while still protecting the privacy of its citizens. A grand notion but
one that may not have is a happy solution.

I have felt that as with anything that stands to protect an entire group of people its a fact
that toes are going to be stepped on. The NSAs bulk collection of Americas phone
records collection program is set to expire. There are those that in the wake of the Paris
attack feel the NSA program should continue. The battle rages on, should innocent
citizens privacy be violated to prevent a mass killing of innocent people or should the
risk be taken it could happen and find alternative methods of early detection.
What has been proven and I believe is the most valuable tool at the worlds disposal is
social media. The world is so dependent upon the likes of Facebook and Twitter etc.
that a vast majority of society can be monitored without violation as the individuals
without thought are publicly informing the world of their world.
The operative word should be trolling an extremely annoying and offensive tactic that
individuals do to one another could be a tool used to root out the enemy. By using the
internet as it is with all of its imperfections and perfections the solution may be right in
front of everyones face.
