Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

INTASC Standard:
Standard #2: Learning Differences
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities
to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.
Brief Description of Artifact:
As part of my EDUC 121 Child Development course during the spring semester of 2014, this
particular assignment was based off of Erik Erikson and his psychosocial theory. This
assignment included descriptions of all eight stages, main events in the stages, and
positive/negative outcomes of each stage. I was able to reflect on my own personal life
experiences, putting them into Eriksons stages.
Analysis of What I Learned:
In doing this assignment I learned a lot about people, as well as myself. I learned that I have
good support to pass successfully through the early stages. I also learned that even though we
pass through the same stages with the same primary events, we all adapt to them differently. In
doing this assignment I have a stronger foundation of growth and development, and can better
help children in my classroom develop strong, positive characters.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Standard:
INTASC Standard 2 and Erik Eriksons developmental theory are both about the understanding
of individuals. I have demonstrated my competence in this standard because I better realize that
teachers use their understanding of individual differences to ensure learning in the classroom.
This project helped me understand that while all human beings go through the stages, we each
deal with the issues differently. I also am better able to create a learning environment that will

enable each learner to meet high standards. Learning Eriksons stages helped me understand that
children need to learn to set goals in order to grow. This project was beneficial to me in many
ways, enabling me to become a better, more effective teacher.
