Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection

INTASC Standard:
Standard #3: Learning Environments
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and
collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement
in learning, and self motivation (INTASC, 2011).
Brief Description of Artifact:
As part of my EDUC 230 Exceptional Children course during the spring semester of
2014, I created a Classroom Blog. The blog was created for parents/guardians, to help share
classroom information with them, ask for volunteers to help with the classroom, and speak to
them about collaboration.
Analysis of What I Learned:
By completing this classroom blog, I learned how to share classroom information with
the parents/guardians of my students, all while using a new resource. In making the blog I
learned how to write a classroom goal, how to achieve that goal, how to explain inclusion, and
how to use inclusion in my classroom. I learned how to reach out to these caretakers, how to
speak to them about why I would like to collaborate with them in the classroom at times.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Standard:
My competence in this standard is proven by my ability to commutate with the parents/
guardians of my students. I am able to share classroom information easily by posting it on the
classroom blog. I am able to keep parents/guardians updated, teach them about my classroom,
my goals, and expectations for them and their students.
