Evan Parent - InTASC Standard 5

STANDARD 5: Innovative Application of Content

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage

learners in critical/creative thinking and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local

and global issues.

The teacher understands how to teach students how to learn and practice. The teacher

creates a classroom culture where students are encouraged to ask questions and think of

answers based on things they have learned in the past. The teachers' students have a problem

solving mindset and attempt to solve problems themself using many resources at their disposal

that the teacher has taught them how to utilize. This includes utilizing their peers for help when

needed. The teacher also creates a culture where students are encouraged to help their

classmates learn in any way possible.

I don’t feel great about this standard yet. I think once I have a better understanding of

how students bond and create culture based on my classroom, and gain knowledge on more

resources at students disposal, I will be able to better execute the duties of this standard.

My artifact for this standard will be my education classes that I will take at Ball State, as

well as my time at Ball State. I will utilize this time to make connections with my teachers and

peers and learn more about different ways that I can create collaborative learning in my

classroom.
