Evan Parent - InTASC Standard 8

STANDARD 8: Instructional Strategies

The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to

develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply

knowledge in meaningful ways.

The teacher uses lots of different methods to teach relevant content in order to build up

to an end goal, usually being a concert. Different activities using different skills such as

audiation, phonation, counting, clapping, moving, instruments, and even paper or computers

can be used to teach different concepts. These concepts such as literacy, rhythm, pitch, style,

and many more should all relate to the music being performed by the students.

I feel like I’m pretty good with this standard. I’ve taught lots of lessons with the purpose

of applying what’s learned to music being played in class. I don’t have as much experience with

this at a higher level and there is always more to learn, but I feel that this is one of my stronger

standards.

My artifact for this standard will be my music education classes and my standard

education classes I take at Ball State. These will best prepare me for learning how to teach in

different ways and best accommodate different students.
