Hello Montgomery Blair Families,
Over the last week, a local news outlet has aired two stories related to
student disciplinary infractions at our school. To be clear, both infractions
occurred more than three weeks ago. Moreover, yesterdays news report
misstates the facts only 10 students were involved and no staff members
were injured. In both incidents, student received confidential consequences
that are aligned with the MCPS Code of Conduct, parent conferences,
counseling services, and mentoring group support. With over 2900 students
and 287 staff, Montgomery Blair High School is the largest high school in the
state of Maryland however we have very few disciplinary infractions.
As your principal and the parent of a 2015 Blair graduate, I can assure you
that I take safety and security seriously. I have complete confidence in my
staff, security team and school resource officer to maintain a safe and
orderly environment. Montgomery Blair is a top state and national high
school because of the outstanding achievements of our students.
It is unfortunate that a media outlet has chosen to focus on the small handful
of infractions in our school community when there have been so many
newsworthy achievements and accomplishments by our students, including:

Three MBHS students out of 2000 nationwide winning the University of

Maryland Mathematics Competition and receiving full scholarships to
University of Maryland College Park

Three of our students earning perfect scores on the SAT

A student winning the Chesapeake Bay Trust Scholarship award this

week
I encourage you to continue to share the great achievements that are
happening at our school and always question the value of news stories that
can publically embarrass and harass students without any regard to their
social emotional health and well-being.
