Halftime with Coach Cy Alexander on WNAA 90.1 FM the Voice.
COMING BACK FROM BREAK (Jordynn)
We are back with season two of Halftime with Coach Cy Alexander with head coach
Cy Alexander. Now we are getting ready to school you with a little A&T history with
This week in Aggie History and our Aggie Alumni Spotlight. Coach, are you
familiar with the legend Elmer Austin.
Aggie Alumni Spotlight (Jordynn)
The year was 1971, after six CIAA championships and producing numerous
legends, the Aggies left the CIAA to start a new league called the Mid-Eastern

Athletic Conference. North Carolina A&T wasted no time in establishing themselves

as the premier program in the new conference. The Aggies won the first-ever MEAC
Tournament with a 71-62 win over Howard in Durham, N.C. Elmer Austin led the
way for the Aggies with 22 points and 12 rebounds. The win marked the last game
Irvin coached for the Aggies. Elmer Austin led the Aggies in scoring and rebounding
over the final two years of his career. He was also the first-ever MEAC Player of the
Year. He is the only Aggie to be named both All-CIAA and All-MEAC. Elmer Austin is
top 10 in scoring all time in A&T history with 1,478 points, also third all time in
rebounding with 947 rebounds. His 70-71 year was one of A&Ts best individual
performances of all time, he finished the year with 613 points and 408 rebounds,
which ranked second and first of all time in single season records.

This Week in Aggie History (Briana)

On January 24, 1984, the A&T Register published an opinion piece in its newspaper
called Black Power. Its main focus was asking readers Are blacks progressing or
regressing? At this time Miss America was black, Vanessa Williams, and several
elections of black mayors. Many people claimed these individuals were the reasons of
why blacks were progressing, but is that all it takes for blacks to progress? With society
today, the injustices for Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and racial profiling,
are blacks progressing or regressing? Coach what is your opinion of this?

We will be posting this question on our twitter and would love to hear your
response. Follow us on twitter @halftimewithcy1 to voice your opinion.
