At 2 pm today (January 7, 2016) there were 35 patients in the Mercy

University Hospital Emergency Department, nine of whom were awaiting

admission. By 4 pm the number of patients to be admitted was down to six.
Mercy University Hospital (MUH) would like to stress that the clinical needs
of all patients in the Emergency Department were being cared for and that
the elderly awaiting admission were prioritised for beds, which is in line
with hospital policy.
Mercy University Hospital has a well-developed and practiced

Escalation Policy, which the hospital implements frequently

to ensure patients can be treated safely.
