BIO: Genetics and Genethics The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks DIRECTIONS: Choose the two quotations you find most significant from the chapter(s) assigned to you for reading. When it is your turn to SQUID, you will lead the class in a discussion of the reading and must also submit a written summary (for one of the quotes) that follows the guidelines below. Be certain to label each part of the acronym (SQ U I DS). GRADING/DUE DATES: Each SQUIDS is worth 20 points, and you will complete six (or more) SQUIDS this term. SQUIDS are due on the day of your SQUID discussion date. Grading will be based on accuracy and detail, your ability to follow directions and to offer quality formatting, your spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and your ability/willingness to use the SQUID assignment to explore the scientific, cultural and ethical questions contained in the HeLa story. I will also assess, separately, your in-class leadership of the discussion. Choose quotes/passages that stand out in the text for their effect; find quotes that are significant to the theme of the work (science/disease/bioethics/race/culture), as well as character development; select quotes that affect you as a reader because they move you and prompt you to ask questions. 1.
