Continuitydescriptions
AcurveorsurfacecanbedescribedashavingGncontinuity,nbeingtheincreasing
measureofsmoothness.Considerthesegmentseithersideofapointonacurve:
G0:Thecurvestouchatthejoinpoint(position).
G1:Thecurvesalsoshareacommontangentdirectionatthejoinpoint
(tangent).
G2:Thecurvesalsoshareacommoncenterofcurvatureatthejoinpoint
(curvature).
Position(G0)
Position(G0continuity)measureslocationonly.Iftheendpointsofeach
curveareinthesamelocationinspace,thecurvesarepositioncontinuous
(G0)attheends.Inotherwords,thetwocurvesinquestiontoucheachother
attheirendpoints.

Tangency(G1)
Tangency(G1continuity)measurespositionandcurvedirectionattheends.
inotherwords,thetwocurvesnotonlytouch,buttheygothesamedirection
atthepointwheretheytouch.
Thedirectionisdeterminedbythefirstandsecondpointoneachcurve.If
thesetwopointsfallonaline,thetwocurvesaretangentattheends.
Thefirstderivativeofthetwocurvesisequalatthepointwheretheytouch.

Curvature(G2)
Curvaturecontinuity(G2continuity)betweentwocurvesmeasuresposition,
direction,andradiusofcurvatureattheends.Iftheradiusofcurvatureisthe
sameatthecommonendpoint,curvesarecurvaturecontinuous(G2).In
otherwords,thecurvesnotonlygothesamedirectionwhentheymeet,but
alsohavethesameradiusatthatpoint.Thisconditionisnoteasyto
determinebyjustlookingatwherethepointsarelocated.
Boththefirstandsecondderivativesoftheequationsareequalatthatpoint.
