BAJAJ PULSAR: A STORY IN STARK CONTRAST TO LOCKHEED TRISTAR

Introduction - Background of the Project:

The main purpose for all the firms is to introduce products and implement those
projects which add value to the business. This project intends to compare two
contrasting stories of businesses where the launch of a particular product turned the
status quo of the business.

Lockheed, for instance had to shut down its operations and was on the brink of
bankruptcy because of its new set of plans called the Tristar that it had launched. On
the other hand Bajaj launched the bike Pulsar that changed the fortunes of Bajaj and
its brand image.

Pulsar gained unprecedented success. The volume of motorcycles sold by Bajaj grew
by over 32% y-o-y thanks to the popularity of Pulsar which sold over 180,000 in just
a year. It certainly revolutionized the motorcycle industry.

Objective of the Study:

To understand the decisions which Bajaj had taken correctly but were ignored or done
incorrectly by Lockheed.

To study the methods of analysing a particular projects viability

Methodology:

Financial data will be collected from the annual statements of Bajaj and other reliable
sources

The data collected would be used to analyse the viability of the project and the impact
of Pulsar on the financial position of Bajaj

Implementing the correct set of decisions on Lockheed and seeing the results, would
also tell us if there was a decision making crisis at the helm of Lockheed
