What is Coronary Heart Disease


and what causes it?
Coronary heart disease is one of the
most dangerous and common heart
diseases in the United States
Plaque builds up inside the coronary
arteries and they wont be able to
supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart

Risk Factors

Smoking
High blood pressure
High blood cholesterol levels
Diabetes
Obesity
Not enough physical activity
A lot of stress
Family History

Symptoms
Doesnt always have symptoms in the
beginning stages
When your heart is lacking oxygen or blood
you will feel chest pain
May feel tightness, pressure, or squeezing in
your chest
When your heart isnt pumping a certain
amount of blood that your body requires you
may experience shortness of breath

Diagnosis

Blood tests
ECG/EKG
Stress test
Heart CT scan

Treatment
Lifestyle changes such as:
Quit smoking
Healthier diet
Exercise regularly to decrease the
amount of fat that may be clogging
your arteries

Treatment
Medicines such as:
Aspirin
Beta blockers- Used for managing cardiac
arrhythmias

Nitroglycerin- Prevents chest pain


Cholesterol-modifying medicines- Decreases
your low density cholesterol

Treatment
Procedures such as:
Angioplasty- Unblocking of a blood vessel
Stent placement- Done during angioplasty
Bypass surgery- Replace damaged arteries in
your heart with other blood vessels from your body.
