I wanted my masthead to be sans-serif, as my research showed that this was the
most popular option. Although I like the simplicity of the first two fonts that I found on DaFont, the third one looks more young and eye catching, which is ultimately what I am aiming for, as my readers are late teen girls. This market has a lot of competition, so the more eye catching the better.
Taking off the background white enables me to now use it for the masthead, while showing off the cover photo that I use.
