AresandVenusistheequivalentofAphrodite.Manyhouseholdshadtheirown
shrinesthatwereusedonadailybasis2 .Emperorswerealsoconsideredgods.Few
peopleinthistimewereChristians,andwerepunishedfortheirbeliefinonlyone3
god.ThisdiscriminationofChristiansendedhowever,whentheRomanEmperor
ConstantinehadavisionofChristonthebattlefield,andlaterconvertedhimselfto
thenewreligion.
AfterConstantinehadconvertedtoChristianity,heorderedtheChurchesto
sendoutmissionariesacrossthelandstoconverttherestoftheEmpire.Most
wouldconvertimmediatelybecausetheyfeltabandonedbytheirgods.4 However,
anywhostillactedinthewayofPaganbeliefswould
bepunishedand/orexiledfromtheEmpireentirely.
