reactionsofchildrenandvisitors.Involvingparentsinaclassroomforanyreason
demandsextratimeandeffortfromateacherbecausethereareplanstomakeand
fitintotheroutine.Thebestuseofparentstimeandskillsmustbedeterminesand
theymushbepreparedfortheirrolesintheunusualevent.Forparents,spending
timeinaclassroomisthebestwaytounderstandwhatisgoingoninaschool.
Parentsofchildreninelementaryschoolmaynotrealizehowmuchteaching
methodsandcurriculumhavechangedsincetheywereinschool.Seeingwhatis
actuallyhappeninggivestheparentsmorerespectforthereallearningthatis
takingplace.Beinginaclassroomalsohelpsparentsfeelsatisfactionsasthey
contributetolearningandarerecognizedasimportantadultsbytheirchildand
theirfriends.Mostparentsalsoenjoygettingtoknowtheirchildrensfriends.
Childrensfeelingsofsecurityincreaseastheyseeparentsandteachersworking
togethercooperatively.Childrengettoseeandunderstandhowimportant

educationistotheirparentsandtheirteacherswhentheyareallaroundsupporting
them.

tostimulateparentstoexaminetheirrelationshipwiththeirchildrenmoreclosely
andtoencourageinteractionamountparentsaswellasschoolstaff.Theword
educationitsselfispartoftheproblem,becauseitistheformalstudyoffacts
associatedwithanarrowlycognitiveacademicworld.Inrealsituations,the
subjectofparentchildrelationsandeducationisnotusuallysomuchconcerned
withfactsandknowledgeasitiswithconcepts,attitudesandideas.Thelessonand
conceptsofanyeducationalprogrammaybelessimportantthanthemethodsof
bringingfamiliestogethertounderstandfeelingsandopenupnewpathsintheir
lives.Teachercanlearnmuchmorefromfamiliesaboutthemselvesandtheir
childrenastheypresentthemselvesasopentolearningasbothpartieswork
together.Parenteducationhastakenmanyformandmanydifferentpurposeswith
alldifferentresults.Specificprogramsmaybeplannedforparticulargroupssuch
assingleparents,parentsofchildrenwithspecialneedsorevengrandparents.
Consideringallthedifferentmodelsthatareeffective,itisveryimportantto

examineattitudesandpracticesthatsupportandstrengthenparentssenseof
competenceandpartnershipwithteachers.
