Dear parent or guardian,


This is a friendly letter home to inform you about what your student has been
accomplishing in our classroom! Right now, we are focusing on a theme of George Washington
and some important dates in his lifetime.
As part of our learning, we are going to watch a Prezi presentation that talks about
President Washington, and then we will be embarking on a field trip to visit his home,
Mt. Vernon (field trip permission slip attached)! While at Mt. Vernon, each student will
be taking a selfie with the life-sized statue of George Washington, and each photo will
be incorporated into a video presentation that we will compile and create together as a
class.
This letter also serves to request your permission for your students photo to be
included in our presentation which will be created through the Prezi website. You are
cordially invited to join us on our field trip, or simply view our class Prezi when it is
complete!
Finally, in case you are interested in knowing, this presentation serves to meet the
standards for the ninth grade; in particular, these standards are:
1. Ohio / English Language Arts / History & Social
Studies, grades 9-10 - CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.9-10.2: Determine the
central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an
accurate summary of how key events or ideas develop over the course of
the text.
2. Ohio / English Language Arts / History & Social
Studies, grades 9-10 - CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.9-10.3 - Analyze in detail a
series of events described in a text; determine whether earlier events
caused later ones or simply preceded them.
