Where We Live Unit Plan

Calendar of Events
EACH DAY WILL START WITH A NEBRAKSA FACT FROM THE NEBRASKA
STATE FACTS APP, SHOWN BY TEACHER ON THE PROJECTOR.

Day One: schema activator
Key Objectives: Students will understand concept where we
live (city, county, state, etc.)
NETS: 1.a, 1.d, 2.a, 2.b, 3.a,
Key Activities: reading of From Here to There, diagram of
process, Google earth activities,
Assigned: ask your parents what neighbor hood you live in
Due: N/A
Day Two: Review and terms
Key Objectives: students will review where we live (city,
country, state...etc.)
NETS: N/A
Key Activities: students will recreate the diagram on their own,
and complete a terms work sheet as well as a vocabulary activity
on those words

Day Three: Color My World (formative assessment)
Key Objectives: students will develop a deeper understanding
of how city, county, state ect. Interact.

Day Four: Which is more?
Key Objectives: students will solidify their knowledge of how
city, county, state ect. Interact

Day Five: Where Has Kindergarten been

Key Objectives: Students will understand the United States of


America and how it differs from our state of Nebraska
NETS: 1:a, 1:b, 1:c, 2:a, 2:b, 3:a, 3:c, 4,
Key Activities: students will discuss the homework activity and
teacher will post on the projector each place the class had been,
coloring in all the states on a interactive map. Students will then
work on their own map based on which states they had been in.
during this time the teacher will tally up how many students
have been in each state, and fill in the data sheet. Using this to
create an online graph for the students to look at.

Day Six: State facts
Key Objectives: students will know their state facts
NETS: 1:b, 1:d, 2:b, 3:d, 4,
Key Activities: students will use online sites and the maps app
to discover the state bird (meadow lark) the state tree (cotton
wood) the state flower (golden rod) the state flag
Assigned: With your family decorate your part of the flag
Due: color my world 2
Day Seven: my state Flag
Key Objectives: students will show creativity and teamwork to
create the state flag as a class
NETS: N/A
Key Activities: coloring and designing of their state part.
Station learning to allow students turns with the flag project.
Stations include Tap Quiz World Map Game, My city War game,
Greater than Less than game, time to work on flag piece, and
time to start their World Where I Live booklet

Days Eight, Nine ,Ten and Eleven: The World Where I Live (Summative
Assessment)
Key Objectives: students will compile all they have learned in
this unit to create the end product of a book that uses all they
know about their world

Key Activities: students will use independent time over the
three days to create the world where I live book.
