What is Target?

Target Corporationis an American retailer that operates large retail


stores primarily across North America that offer many different goods.

Target is the second-largest discount retailerin the United States,


behindWalmart.

Target was founded as Goodfellow Dry Goods in 1902. The first Target
store was opened in 1962.
Target was formally called Goodfellow Dry Goods, Dayton's Dry
Goods Company, The Dayton Company, and Dayton-Hudson
Corporation.

CEO

Brian C. Cornell

Cornell is board chairman and CEO of Target Corp.

Heis responsible for Targets global business,includingmore than 1,800


stores, and more than347,000 team members.

Cornell earned a bachelors degree at UCLA in 1981and attended


Anderson School of Management.

Cornelljoined Target inAugust2014.

Charities They Support

With the help of theirREDcard holders, Target has donated $418 million
to local K-12 schools since 1997 through Take Charge of
Education(TCOE).
The program lets guests designate 1 percent of their REDcard
purchases to a K-12 school of their choice to fund whatever the school
needs most.

Since 2001, Target has been partnered with Feeding Americain their
fight to end hunger in the United States.
Target has donate millions of pounds of food each year, providing
millions of meals to families in need. Feeding America and local food
banks partner with Target on their Meals for Mindsprogram.

Target hassupported their communities through projects for theUnited


Waysince 1962.
In 2014, Target andindividual team members donated more than $14.6
million, and team members also volunteered nearly 250,000 hours in
their local communitiesas part ofour annualUnited Way campaign.

Other Social Responsibilities/Ethics

Target is devoted to helping their team members throughout the world


live well and achieve their goals. Target supports team members paths
to health and well-being through resources, services, and benefit
programsfor eligible team members, spouses, and other family
members.

Target provided more than $12 million this year to improve libraries in
local schools across the country. The company also made $1.5 million in
grants to encourage reading at more than 100 schools that participated
in its library-makeover program in the past.
Both efforts are part of Targets plan to give $1-billion to education
by 2015.
