How
Elephants
are
trained
for
performing:
Physical
punished
has
always
been
standard
training
methods.
Animals
are
beaten,
shocked
and
whipped.
Bullhooks
This
2-3
foot
club
with
a
sharp
metal
hook
is
used
by
elephant
trainers
worldwide,
it
is
traditionally
used
on
sensitive
areas
to
correct
behaviour
and
instill
fear.
The life and Health of an Elephant
Circus
elephants
may
carry
tuberculosis
(TB),
and
can
infect
humans
with
the
bacterial
disease.
Public
records
show
that
many
circuses
have
used
TB-positive
elephants
in
public
performances.
Virtually
96
percent
of
their
lives
are
spent
in
chains
or
cages.
11
months
a
year
they
travel
over
long
distances
in
box
cars
with
no
climate
control;
sleeping,
eating,
and
defecating
in
the
same
cage.
The
owner
Bowmanville
Zoo
is
currently
under
investigation
by
the
OSPCA
for
viciously
whipping
a
tiger
over
twenty
times
during
a
training
session.
PETA-
the
animal
rights
organization
went
into
the
zoo
undercover
and
obtained
horrific
undercover
footage.
The
owner
admitted
to
beating
the
animals
on
camera.
We
are
sending
the
wrong
message
to
our
children.
There
was
a
time
when
a
circus
and
zoos
may
have
represented
the
only
exposure
a
child
had
to
a
wild
animal.
Today
our
children
learn
early
in
school,
and
through
programs
on
Animal
Planet
and
The
Discovery
Channel,
that
wild
animals
live
complex
and
fascinating
lives,
and
have
natural
instincts,
developed
over
thousands
of
years.
When
kids
see
the
negative
messages
circuses
and
zoos
send,
it
completely
contradicts
these
lessons.
