Principals Post
Welcome back in 2016! We are so glad to be back to school in the New Year
and look forward to finishing the 2015 2016 school year strong as we begin
the second semester.
As we start the beginning of the end of the school year, it is important for
students and families to start planning for next school year and to begin
mapping out their courses with an idea of what they wish to do following the
completion of their time at Fostoria Junior/Senior High School. We
encourage students and families, grades 6-11, to attend the Scheduling
Information Night on Wednesday, January 27th (times listed below). This is
a great opportunity to hear from school administrators and counselors
about what requirements must be fulfilled and what the options are for
students at Fostoria Junior/Senior High School.
It is equally important for students to not get caught looking ahead and to
maintain a focus on their current courses in an effort to maintain a strong
G.P.A. and to obtain the necessary credits to complete all graduation
requirements and pave the road for future success. Please communicate
with your student(s) regularly regarding their courses and do not hesitate to
contact the school with any questions you may have.
As always, we appreciate your support of our efforts to provide the best
educational experience for the students of Fostoria Junior/Senior High
School.

As a first year teacher-librarian, there have been some issues that have had
to be thoughtfully considered and worked through, but I am glad to say there
have been many changes and some great accomplishments in LMC this year!

Overdue and Missing/Damaged Fines

Like many adults, students need reminders. Starting in October, I have been
trying to communicate with students and families about overdue materials. I

realize that there has been some confusion about overdue fines and notices. If
your student received a notice for fines, those fines have now been waived.
For the rest of the 2015-2016 school year, students will have all previous
overdue fines waived from grades 7-12. However, students will be expected
to pay for damaged, missing or lost items from the library.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Amy Masterson

Absences from School

The chart below indicates our 2nd quarter attendance rates by (left to
right) grades 7 - 12, 2nd quarter totals and semester totals.
o The blue bars represent the 2014-2015 school year and red
represent this school year.
Higher is better - we want the red to be higher than the blue
o The attendance rate for the 2nd quarter improved from 90.1% in
14-15 to 91.5% in 15-16
o The attendance rate for the 1st semester improved from 91.6% in
14-15 to 92% in 15-16

3rd Quarter Weekly Competition

o Last school year the 3rd quarter was our worst quarter for
attendance. To try to address this we will be having a weekly
competition between the grades.
The winning class for the week will receive a small
incentive and then the winner for the entire quarter will
receive a larger incentive.
If the entire building reaches 94% attendance, there will be
a building-wide reward!

Tardies to School
The chart below indicates our 2nd quarter tardy rates by (left to right)
grades 7 - 12, 2nd quarter totals and year totals.
o The blue bars represent the 2014-2015 school year and red
represent this school year.
Lower is better we want the red to be lower than the blue
As you can tell, we have had a significant decrease in our tardy to
school rate! This is a great achievement and we are very proud of this!
o 57% reduction in tardy rate during 2nd quarter (14-15 vs. 15-16)
o 48.4% reduction in tardy rate during 1st semester (14-15 vs. 15-16)
