TIERGARTEN

living installation

MISCHA BADASYAN is a performance artist and activist from Russia based in

Berlin. Activism, political and social issues are part of his artistic practice. Every artist
is a channel who is sending a message and who is trying to change himself as well
as the people around him. His projects and performances should inspire people, give
them new feelings and energy, push them to a new level, and enhance their state of
mind.

He has been invited to be part of the event in the Hygiene Museum Dresden which
will be dedicated to World AIDS Day on December 1st.
For this occasion he created a new piece called TIERGARTEN that is based on his
last project SAVE THE DATE and his experiences in the cruising areas in Berlin
(background information: Mischa went on a date, every day, with a new person for
the whole year to express his feeling of loneliness. While dating in the cruising areas
he had his first experiences having sex with people where, after a conversation, he
learned they were HIV positive). TIERGARTEN is going to be a living installation that
consists of at least 50 people.

CORE OF THE PROJECT

Above is the big hall of the Hygiene Museum Dresden, where TIERGARTEN will be
presented. I would like to place all volunteers in that hall, then ask them to hug each
other and stay like this for one hour. This act is a metaphorical representation of
Tiergarten, which has the largest cruising area of Berlin. The audience will have to
pass through people and to cruise in the space, thus turning the Hygiene Museum
into a cruising area. Each person in the audience will receive a description of the
installation and instructions how they should behave in the cruising area. There is
also a sound installation in the entire space, playing audio clips of actual dating,
cruising and sexual intercourse that were recorded in Tiergarten. [intercourse means
fucking, perhaps sexual activities better and includes any kind of sex act].

WHAT VOLUNTEERS HAVE TO DO

I am looking for men (cis, trans* and whoever who consider himself as a man).
I dont mind your AGE, BMI, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, RELIGION, TATTOOS, and
PIERCINGS. Everyone is more than welcome.
When we meet in the museum, each participant will be required to find one partner,
with whom they could enjoy hugging for a long period of time. Each pair of people will
do this for one hour. Participants will be half naked wearing just underwear. The color
of the underwear is red which symbolically stands for many topics of the installation:
the color of love and passion, sexuality, solidarity, HIV, warning, anxiety and
something dangerous or unknown.
In the end of the event you are welcome to share some food in the buffet.
Everyone will get photo and video recordings of the event.
