News Article: Muslim Reform Movement Decries Radical Islam, Calls for

Equality
-Asra Nomani and a 12 of her fellow Muslims went to the Islamic Center of Washington,
D.C., and posted a declaration on the door denouncing violent jihad, rejecting Islamic
statism and opposing the ideology of violent Islamic extremism.
-After all the terrorist attacks lately, the Muslim community finally decided to state how
terrorism and religion have nothing to do with one another.
-The Muslims stood on Friday and went to the mosque, willing to risk their own lives
because theyve had enough of the terrorists claiming their religion is Muslim, when
killing has nothing to even do with a part of the religion.
-The press also took a shot at Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and
Ben Carson, accusing them of fueling an unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim incidents
nationwide through their inaccurate and inflammatory statements.
-After the terrorist attack that left 14 dead and 21 injured, the Islamic State took
responsibility for that, but Mr. Ayloush refused to blame Islamic extremism, saying that,
Terrorism is a global problem, not a Muslim problem.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states in Article 18 that everyone has the
right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to
change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and
in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and
observance. When the terrorists say that they are Muslim, people start believing that
anyone that is Muslim has some kind of association with terrorism, which is
discriminating Muslims, and makes them question their freedom of conscience and
religion.
Discussion question: Why do you think Terrorists claim that they are Muslim when they
dont even practice or believe in the Muslim religion?
