DISCIPLINE POLICY
Rationale
A positive school climate and a safe learning and teaching environment are essential if
students are to succeed in school. A positive school climate means everyone feels they are
welcome and respected. Good behavior and discipline are key foundations for good
education. Without an orderly atmosphere effective teaching and learning cannot take
place. We expect and insist on the highest standards of behavior throughout our school.
Courtesy, good manners and consideration for others, together with self-discipline and a
proper respect for authority, are encouraged at all times and are important if we are to
make our school a true, caring community. We place great emphasis on praising children
for politeness and kindness to others. All students, parents, teachers and staff have the
right to be safe, and feel safe, in their school community. With this right comes the
responsibility for everyone to be accountable for their actions and contribute to a positive
school climate.
Therefore binding ground rule is RESPECT FOR EVERYONE.
Disciplinary Consequences
Teachers have the authority to utilize various behavior management techniques to
encourage positive student behavior within the classroom and the building. If the student
fails to behave as expected, all actions have the consequences.
Unacceptable conduct is divided in 2 levels of offenses which may result in disciplinary
action under this code. A student, who commits an act of misconduct that is not listed, is
also subject to disciplinary action.
Yellow card Behaviors are the minor offenses. And Red Card Behaviors are Major offenses.

purpose of this note is to determine whether or not the students absence is excused or
Unexcused, as this will be maintained until the end of the school year for documentation
purposes.
Excused Absences
1. Illness: When a student is unable to attend school due to an illness, a note
written by the Parent or a physician documenting the illness will provide
evidence of the illness for the school.
2. Chronic/Extended Illness - For students who are absent because of chronic
illnesses, a disability, or because of a need for homebound services, the Parent
must send the notification to school and meet the school authorities.
Documentation from a physician will be required. For students who are absent
for more than 5 days in a month and/or exhibit defined patterns of absences for
them also documentation from a physician will be required.
3. Prearranged Appointments - For appointments with Health Care providers,
official documentation must be presented to the school.
4. Family Death or Emergency - For absences because of a death in the family or an
emergency beyond the family's control and the Parent must notify the school
5. Exclusions/Suspensions - For absences because of an exclusion or suspension
the parent will be notified about it and also the date of return to school.
6. The student must return on indicated date
7. Exceptional Circumstances - The principal may approve prearranged absences
for situations in which an exemption from attendance appears to be in best
interest of the student and his/her family
Unexcused Absences
1. Absences from school without the permission of school authorities
2. Coming to school but not attending and particular/all classes.
Policy for Tardies and Absences
If the child has an excuse note for coming late, it will be considered as excused Tardy and
the child will be allowed to be in school. But if the student comes without the excuse note,
he will not be allowed in school building
Tardiness (late coming) to school or to class is addressed as a discipline issue.
1. If the student is up to 10 minutes late or he/she gets a tardy.
2. 4 tardies add up to 1 absence
3. If the child is tardy with the excuse note, then he/she must go to the coordinator to
get it countersigned.
If a child has 4 Tardies in a month, then he/she will do a break detention. This will be
tracked and administrated by the class Teacher. Record will go to personal file.
