September every year. The day is the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya (18601965), an eminent Indian engineer from the (University of Pune) and statesman born in MuddenahalliKanivenarayanapura in present-day Karnataka.
He served as the chief engineer during construction of
Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore. He also built many dams in the Bombay presidency (present-day Maharashtra). The dams built by him are still functional today, a testimony to his engineering skills. He was also honored with India's highest honor Bharat Ratna in 1955.

of Engineers (India) conduct meets and events on this occasion.IEI are dedicating the 44th Engineer's Day to "Engineering Preparedness for Disaster Mitigation". Sir M Visvesvaraya was the man behind the flood protection system.
