SELECTIVE UNIT 14 (S14)


(Emerging Technologies I)
(JULY 2010)

Unit Statement: This is an open unit that allows the teacher to explore new and emerging
technologies that have not yet been written into QSI Technology curriculum. NETS page
21 #3 and NETS pg. 21 #6. Note: teacher need not be fully versed in the particular
technology if the student can prove interest and aptitude in the emerging technology in
question.
Suggested Materials:
Software:
New software and hardware are to be deemed by instructor as appropriate and
comprehensive to support the technology. In many cases these software applications
can be found without cost and without waiting on the Internet. There may also be
reduced school sets that are viable for student exploration.
Essential Outcomes: (assessed for mastery)
1. The Student Will explore and report a basic understanding of the emerging
technology. Suggested activities include presentation, written report, podcast,
video, etc.
2. TSW demonstrate the use of the technology.
3. TSW select a real-world problem and use the technology to solve the problem in a
project-based format.
4. TSW present his or her findings and report back to administrators or an outside
group beyond the building teaching staff.
