Aim and hypothesis

Did Japan really deserve to be bombed by the Americans in the Second World War?
This question, besides the obvious, insinuates the thought in a direr context, if the
bombings served as the portent for nuclear proliferation in the 20 th century. Nuclear
armament is fashionable, it is powerful and can bring empires and republics and
dictators down to their knees. But these are merely words. The particular query, I
believe, is more poised to answer some, if not, all the questions that plaque human
minds with the dread of a complete nuclear waste to the world. The answer, on both
margins, is debatable and can give impetus to raucous arguments from both sides.
I believe the nuclear bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki are heinous
and barbaric and no such excuse can be made to sound even remotely
cogent to our ideals of humane and humanity. Dwight Eisenhower puts it
this way, If men can develop weapons that are so terrifying as to make
the thought of global war include almost a sentence for suicide, you
would think that mans intelligence and his comprehension would also
include his ability to fi nd a peaceful solution. The Americans and the
Allies could have spent a minute or so looking at one more nook or crevice
to fi nd a more peaceful way of settling things.
