BERDE FOR EXISTING BUILDINGS

OVERVIEW
BERDE for Existing Buildings is a green building rating scheme designed to measure the sustainability of present
buildings and structures in the Philippines. Buildings eligible for certification under this rating scheme are commercial
and residential establishments, offices, and non-academic institutional buildings (museums, churches, libraries, etc.)
that are at a height of four (4) storeys or more.
The rating scheme is applicable to buildings that are new to BERDE certification, buildings that have been previously
certified under BERDE for New Construction, and buildings that have undergone major renovation work, and will
include the assessment of building operations, and alterations or additions that affect usable space in the building.

Minimum Project Requirements

Each project must meet minimum requirements in order to qualify for BERDE certification. All projects must comply
with applicable national, local and environmental laws, be a complete permanent building or space, have a site
boundary (distinct property lines), comply with minimum occupancy rates, commit to sharing whole building energy
and water usage data, and comply with a minimum building area to site-area ratio.
Applications for buildings never certified under BERDE and buildings previously certified under BERDE for New
Construction are considered for initial certification. Buildings previously certified under BERDE for Existing Buildings
and filing for application under the same rating scheme are considered for recertification only. Buildings previously
certified under BERDE for New Construction and filing for application under the same rating scheme after twelve (12)
months or more are however considered as applications under BERDE for Existing Buildings.
