To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Samantha-Rae Adamson and I am interested in applying
for a teaching position. I have student teaching experience in grades
10 to 12 and I hope to incorporate my knowledge, passion and
practices into your division and community. I am a Winnipeg born Metis
woman and I strongly believe that education is the key to social justice,
creative development and a strong and sustainable community.
I am a graduating Bachelor of Education student at the University of
Manitoba and I have completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English
Literature and Sociology. I have experience teaching English Language
Arts and Computer Science at the high school level.
While my content areas are very different, they both allow me to
develop units that promote ideas about literacy, language, creative
development and social justice and I use these ideas to drive my
lessons. For example, I developed a grade 11 thematic short story unit
that focuses on the idea of recognizing privilege and allows students to
explore their own ideas by writing and sharing their own stories with
the class. In Computer Science, we talk about the gender gap in the
field and the assignments are creative to promote inclusion, their ideas
and their interests.
Computer Science is a developing creative field that I believe to be
incredibly important. During my practicum placement at Transcona
Collegiate, I helped organize and run an Hour of Code session to
encourage participation and build interest in the computer science
program. I also supervised a student led computer science interactive
info-session for grade 8 students at a John Gunn Middle School.
Since 2012, I have been working with New Directions as a Support
Worker for people with intellectual needs. I work with individuals
between the ages of 12 and 65 and this is a position I am very
passionate about. It has fostered my desire to work with challenging
individuals and students with special needs. I intend to eventually
return for my PBDE to further pursue this path.
I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about any open
teaching positions and how I may apply my interests and experiences
within your division.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best,
Samantha-Rae Adamson
