ThepurposeofBNWASistoimprovethesafetyofnavigation.WhentheBNWASisactivetheOfficerOn
Watch(OOW)isobligedtoresetthesystemregularlyotherwiseanalarmwillbeactivatedassoonas
thepreselecteddormantperiod(Td)willbeexpired.WhenevertheOOWwillnotresettheBNWASin
time,thenthefollowingalarmsequenceswilltakeplace.

VISUALALARM:Attheendofdormantperiod,theflashbeaconinstalledontheBridgewillstart
flashing.
x
STAGE1:Ifnotreset,theBNWASwilladditionallysoundafirststageaudiblealarmonthebridge
15secondsafterthevisualflashbeaconisinitiated.
x
STAGE2:ifnotresetthentheBNWASwilladditionallyaSECONDSTAGEremoteaudiblealarm
willbetriggeredinthebackupofficersandmasterlocationafter15seconds.

andRemoteAlarmPanelsorResetPanelsislostandwhenthepushbuttonofthe
resetpanelsareshortedformorethan9seconds.
CAN:isdisplayedwhenevercommunicationbetweenMEUandControlpanelis
lost.
BUZ:Isdisplayedwheneverbuzzers(alertpanels)aredisconnected.

4.3.1OPERATINGMODE
Therearethreeoperationmodesavailableforselectionbymasterasfollows:
ManualOff:BNWASisOFF(inactive).
ManualOn:BNWASisON(active).Thecountdownprocessofthedormantperiodis
commencingandtheOOWhavetoresetthesystembeforethedormantperiodwillbe
expired..
Automatic:ItissimilartotheMANUALON,howeverthesystemisremainingin
STANDBYmodewaitingtoreceiveanexternaltriggerfromGPSorautopilotto
becomeON(active).
AsageneralruleofnavigationthroughouttheMENUS,pressingmomentarilytheMENU
keyscrollstheMENUtotheforwarddirectionandpressingmomentarilytheENTERkey
scrollstheMENUtothebackwarddirection.SameappliestotheUPandDOWNarrow
keys,UPforupwardsandDOWNforDAWNWARDS
Toselectoneoftheabovemodesproceedasfollows:

8.SystemMountingandCabling.
TheinstallationofIME300BNWASsystemisveryeasy.Howevertosimplifytheinstallation
andavoidrunninglongcables,itisveryimperativetolocatethebestplaceswherethe
BNWASunitswillbemounted.Followingaresomemountinginstructions.
MainElectronicUnit,(MEU).AllcablesareterminatedintheMEU.Thereforetrytofinda
mountingplaceinthebridgewherewillbeeasytorunthecablestovariousrequiredplaces
likeofficersdeck,crewpublicplacesetc.
ControlUnit:ShouldbemountedinaplacewhereitisvisibleandaccessiblebytheofficerOf
Watch(OOW)inthelookoutarea.Therearetwomountingversionofthecontrolunit,Table
toporconsolemounting.Usetheoptionaladapterkitforconsolemounting.
Cables:TheIME300doesnotrequirespecialcablesfortheinstallationashavebeenwell
protectedagainsthighimmunitytointerferenceandEMC.Howeverwestronglysuggestto
usemarineapprovedscreenedcablesthoserequiredbyregulations,inorderavoid
problemsduringinspectionfromshipsclassifications.
Therequiredcablesforinstallationareasfollows:
a) FromMEUtoControlPanel6x0.5,screenedwithmax.outerdiameter10mm
b) FromMEUtoallotherUnits6x0.5,screenedwithmax.outerdiameter10mm.
7.1WhereToMounttheBNWASUnits:Someshipsclassificationsandflagshaveaspecific
requirementsrelatedtothefittingoftheBNWASunits,particularlytotheinstallationofPIRS
whichrequiresaspecialattention.Westronglysuggestingyoutocontactwiththeminorder
toclarifyifthereareextrarequirementforyourparticularvessel.
8.1.1 INSIDEBRIDGE(STAGE1):
TheSTAGE1audiobridgealarmisbuiltintheMEU.Thereforeyoudonthaveto
installaremotealertpanelIME304inthebridgearea.Alsoaresetbuttonis
builtinthecontrolpanel.ThereforeinstallingaresetunitIME303inthebridgeis
considereda2ndresetpanel.

OOWatthelookoutareaclosetoconningposition.

LEDBEACONS:IME307.Mounttheflashbeacontoaplacewherewillbe
visibletotheOOWaswellasfrombridgewings.MaybetwoFlashbeacons
arerequiredtocoverthebridgeandwingsarea.
PIRDETECTORS:ThePIRsareanoptionalautomaticresetdevicesthatrelief
thestresstotheOOW,particularlyincriticalnavigationareas.Nevertheless
mountingthePIRSrequiresaspecialattentionandaverycarefulstudyof
thecoveragearea,otherwisewillnotbeacceptedbyshipsclassifications.
Incaseswhereyoufacingdifficultiestocovertheproperlookoutareathen
trymountingthePIRsintheceiling.PIRsshouldbemountedandadjustedin
suchawaythatwillmeetthefollowingrequirements:
a) Onlythelookoutareawillbecovered.
b) Thesensors(PIR)willcoveronlytheareaofthebridgeforwardtoany
bridgecurtains.
c) AnymovingofbridgecurtainswillnotresettheBNWAS.
d) Thecoverageareawillnotincludebridgechairs,unlessthechairis
integraltotheprimaryconingposition,suchasinacockpitstyle
operationposition.
e) AnymovingofbridgecurtainswillnotresettheBNWAS.
8.1.2EXTRAMODECONNECTIONS:ForproperoperationofextramodestheBNWAShastobe
connectedwithothernavigationequipmentsasfollows:
a) OfCourseAlarm:ShouldbeconnectedtoGPS,orGyro,ormagnetic,orFluxgate
compasses.ThecoursedeviationwilldependontheNMEAheadinginformationreceivedfrom
oneoftheaboveequipmentinwhichtheBNWASisconnected.
b) Anchorage:ShouldbeconnectedtoanAnemometerthatprovidesNMEAoutputsrelatedto
Windspeedanddirection
c) InPortSecurity:PIRSautomaticallyareEnabledinordertodetectanymovementofan
unauthorizedpersoninthebridgearea.ConnecttheBNWAStoanybridgedoorswitches
(preferablymagneticswitches)thusactivateanalarmwhenthosedoorsareopened..
8.1.3OFFICERSDECK(STAGE2):

installatleastthreeoftheminthecaptainsandofficerscabins.

capabilitiesforinterfaceandcommunicatewithotherequipments.Thefollowingnotices
statedinfigures3&4provideinformationsandconnectiondetails.
8.2.(#1).FAULTOUT:ThereisarelayintheMEUwhichisactivatedwhenBNWASbecame
faulty.Twooutputsareprovided,onewithNormalcloseandtheotherwithanormalopen
