1.2 Vernier Caliper Measuring Instrument

Goal: To read measurements off Vernier Caliper Instruments
You need to remember two things before we start. For example, for a measurement reading of
29.15 mm:

The main scale contributes the main number and one dec

imal place to the reading (29 mm)

The Vernier scale contributes the second decimal place to the reading (0.15 mm)

To obtain the Vernier scale reading: Look at the image below and look closely for an
alignment of the scale lines of the main scale and Vernier scale. In the image below, the
aligned line corresponds to 0.15mm. Hence, the Vernier scale reading is 29.15 mm.
