Tracy and I wanted to minimize the number of people to get deferred for a higher success rate in our project. Every trip to donate, we tripled the number of donations from Blackstone.

    FreshmanandSophomoreyear,IwouldalwaysseeKyleengoupformorningmeeting
    andannouncethattherewasyetanotherchancetodonatebloodatBlackstonefortheBlood
    Center.InthebeginningofJunioryear,however,wereceivednewsthattheBCwouldntbe
    abletocometoBACSanymorebecauseoffinancialandtransportationissues.Afewmonths
    later,TracyandItookthelibertytotakeontheprojectandresponsibilityoftakingBlackstone
    studentstothecenterduringschool.

    Forthelastcoupleofmonths,wehavebeenconsideredBlackstoneBCambassadors
    andwevebeencarryingoutresponsibilitiesfororganization,transportation,andgroupingfor
    successfuldonations.Aproblemthathasexistedwithblooddonationsforyearsisthefactthat
    somepeoplegetrandomlydeferredbecauseofirondeficiencyorweightissues.WhatTracy
    andIwantedtodowastominimizethenumberofpeopletogetdeferredforahighersuccess
    rateinourproject.Wedidthisbyorganizingmeetingstotalkaboutreasonsfordeferralsand
    askedforpeopletostepoutiftheythoughtthatanyofthedeferralreasonsappliedtothem.We
    alsobroughtinaguestspeakertotalkaboutherexperienceswithblooddonations.Thiswas
    efficientbecauseitwasausefultooltohelpourreasoninghithomefortherestoftheschool.
    Withallofthis,everytriptodonate,wetripledthenumberofdonationsfromBlackstone.

    DuringourtripstotheBloodCenter,wewentontoursandwereeducatedonthe
    processesthatthebloodgoesthroughafteritwasdonated.Wealsotookpicturesandpostedit
    ontheBloodCenterspagetoreceiverecognitionforourbraveeffortsofdonatingbloodthat
    day.Weeat,donate,andrelaxfortherestofthetimethatwerethere.Overall,itsagoodday
    togetawayfromschoolandcommitagoodactfortheday.
