Instructions:
Papers are to be submitted as .pdf documents, uploaded to the CANVAS system.
Your document should
not exceed 200 kibibytes per page and
be named A01-426-1161-xxxx.pdf where xxxx are the last four digits of your student ID.

Submission Format:

You may create your solutions either by hand or using software such as Visio. In both cases the
structure and quality should be clear, concise and reasonably professional.

Submitting a scan of your rough draft is not acceptable. You should create a logically clear and concise
draft that is neatly written before scanning to pdf.

All diagrams should be neatly drawn with careful thought. Components should be placed so as to
avoid lines crossing.

2)

We have an unknown load. Standing wave measurements on a transmission line of

characteristic impedance 100 indicate an SWR of 3.5 and a voltage minimum at a
distance of 0.1 from the load. Using Smith chart determine the value of the load
impedance.

3)

In Fig. 2. a transmission line with characteristic impedance Z 0 = 400 ,has been

depicted. The transmission line has a load connected to its end, with ZL = 800-j300 .
The operating frequency is 3 GHz. A single Z0 = 400 stub tuner is used to eliminate
reflections at the input end of the line. Find the position of the stub relative to the load ,
l1, and the length of the tuning stub, l2.
Solve analytically and compare answer when using a Smith chart.

4)

Given that the voltage standing-wave ratio is S=2.5 on a 50 line, that the first voltage
minimum occurs at 0.9 cm from the load, and that the distance between successive
minima is 2.1 cm, find the load impedance.

5)

Lab Exercise using RFSim99 :

a) Using a one port network, simulate your solution for question 3 (Figure 2).
Show results using a linear plot of S11 (dB).
Sweep your frequency from 0.1 GHz to 10 GHz. Plot results.
b) Shows results using a Smith Chart.
Sweep your frequency from 0.1 GHz to 10 GHz. Plot Results.
