55%

No marks will be given for class participation or in-class

activities.
Note: If you miss the midterm examination for any valid
reason, your final course assessment will be based on an 85%
weight of the final examination.
The course components will be marked as a percentage of total
points available and added up according to the weight listed
above. The final percentage will be used to determine the
appropriate letter grade based on a combination of absolute
achievement and relative performance in all MecE 250 sections.

Policy about course outlines can be found in $23.4(2) of the

University Calendar
The University of Alberta is committed to the highest standards
of academic integrity and honesty. Students are expected to be
familiar with these standards regarding academic honesty and to
uphold the policies of the University in this respect. Students are
particularly urged to familiarize themselves with the provisions
of the Code of Student Behaviour (online at
www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/secretariat/studentappeals.cfm) and
avoid any behaviour which could potentially result in suspicions
of cheating, plagiarism, misrepresentation of facts or
participation in an offence. Academic dishonesty is a serious
offence and can result in suspension or expulsion from the
University.
Recording of lectures is permitted only with the prior written
consent of the professor.

MEC E 250 ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments are due every Wednesday at 4 PM.
No late assignments will be accepted for any reason. Only the best 10 of 12
assignments will be used to account for any unforeseen circumstances that may prevent
timely submission of an assignment. Assignment must be submitted in the assignment
box (4th floor MEC).
Full solutions will be posted on the course web-page. Assignment questions reflect the
standard of the examination. Consider them carefully!

WRITING ASSIGNMENT SOLUTIONS

Assignments are not only exercises in solving problems; they are also exercises in
developing clear, logical and concise written presentation skills. Consequently,
assignment solutions must follow the following format rules:
a) Solutions must be written neatly, clearly demonstrating the methods and
arguments used to arrive at the final answers.
b) Final answers must be identified clearly, e.g. circled, boxed, or underlined.
c) Any diagrams must be large and clear. It is recommended that diagrams occupy
at least a third of a page.
Graders will be instructed to assign a mark of zero to any solution which does not
meet these requirements.
Dont forget to put your name, ID, assignment number and date on the assignment
solution.

MEC E 250 SEMINAR E1

Objective of the Seminars:
To focus on application of the theory to solve examination level problems.
In the Seminar
In each seminar, the instructor or teaching assistant will show how to solve selected problems. For
some questions the approach to solving them may be discussed, but the solution may not be written
out in detail.
Before the Seminar
Please review the current lecture material before the corresponding seminar and make sure you are
up to date with the key equations. Please bring your textbook, formula sheet, and a calculator to
every seminar.
After the Seminar
The seminar problems are chosen specifically to supplement the assignments with the intent of
preparing you for examination-standard questions. Full solutions to all of the seminar problems will
be posted on eClass.
