    The students chose to do their National History Day project on Daniel Boone because they both enjoyed the outdoors and were inspired by Boone's adventurous life as a hunter and explorer. They researched Boone online and at the library, taking notes from books and papers. Rather than writing a paper, which neither student was good at, they decided to create a website, as they are both skilled with technology and thought a website would be more interesting than a display board. Their topic fits the 2016 NHD theme of exploration, encounter, and exchange, as Boone frequently encountered wildlife, Native Americans, and traded goods for prisoners during his explorations opening up the west.

    WefirststartedfindingwebsitesthathadinformationaboutBoone,andwritinggood
    informationabouthimonnotecards.ThenextwaywefoundinformationwasgoingtotheLa
    CrossePublicLibraryandsearchingonanonlinecatalogforthelibraryforresourceslikebooks,
    andpapersthatwereonDanielBoone.Wewentthroughthebooksandtooknotesonthem.
    Weliketousetechnology,andwearebothgoodatit,sowedecidedtodoawebsite.
    Neitherofusaregoodwriters,sowedidntwanttowriteapaper.Wethoughtthatawebsitewas
    betterthanadisplayboardwouldbealotmoreboringthanawebsite.Aplayorskitwasnotfor
    usbecausewearentgoodactors,andthatwouldbeembarrassing.

    Oneofthereasonsheisconnectedisbecauseheencountered
    wildlife,indians,andmostimportantlytheCumberlandGap.Manytimesheencountered
    NativeAmericansandwasrobbed,onetimehisdaughterwasevenkidnapped.In1767Daniel
    ledhisownexplorationwhileonahuntingtrip.In1769helefthishomewithJohnFinleyand
    ledanexplorationthroughKentucky.DanielBoonerelatestoexchangebecauseonce,hehadto
    exchangegoodsforprisonerswiththeShawneetribeandmanyothers.
