OneofthetopicsweweregoingtodowasaboutwarshipsintheCivilWar,butwefelt
thatDanielBoonewouldfitthetopicbetter.Wechosethistopicbecausewebothlovethe
outdoorsandDanielBoonereallyinspiredus.Hewasagreathunterandalwayswasoutdoors
startingatayoungage.AnotherreasonwechosehimforourtopicwasBoonefitthetopicwell
becausehewasoneofthegreatestexplorersinUShistory.
WefirststartedfindingwebsitesthathadinformationaboutBoone,andwritinggood
informationabouthimonnotecards.ThenextwaywefoundinformationwasgoingtotheLa
CrossePublicLibraryandsearchingonanonlinecatalogforthelibraryforresourceslikebooks,
andpapersthatwereonDanielBoone.Wewentthroughthebooksandtooknotesonthem.
Weliketousetechnology,andwearebothgoodwiththingslikethat,sowedecidedto
doawebsite.Neitherofusaregoodwriters,sowedidntwanttowriteapaper.Wethoughtthat
awebsitewasbetterthanadisplayboardbecauseitwouldbealotmoreboringthanawebsite.
Aplayorskitwasnotforusbecausewearentgoodactors,andthatwouldbeembarrassing.
DanielBooneisdefinitelyconnectedtothe2016NHDthemeof
Exploration,
Encounter,andExchange.
Oneofthereasonsheisconnectedisbecauseheencountered
wildlife,indians,andmostimportantlyhecarvedtheCumberlandGapthroughKentucky,
virginiaandTennessee.ManytimesheencounteredNativeAmericansandwasrobbed,one
timehisdaughterwasevenkidnapped.In1767Danielledhisownexplorationwhileona
huntingtrip.In1769helefthishomewithJohnFinleyandledanexplorationthroughKentucky.
DanielBoonerelatestoexchangebecauseonce,hehadtoexchangegoodsforprisonerswiththe
Shawneetribeandmanyothers.
