How did we select our topic?

I(Hoseok) was having a problem with a choosing topic. I had just arrived Guam few months ago, and It was my first time doing a big big project on history so I planned to work on the project with partner. I chose Yun Bong Gil, who was one of Korean Hero fought against the oversea invaders. While working on project, Xavier wanted to work on the project with my topic. His topic was about abortion rights, however he had some problems with his research and he also wanted to have a project partner. So we asked our history teacher, Mrs. Fernandez for advice. She said that we can be project buddies because mine is sensitive history between Japanese and Korean, but with Xavier, we can talk and discuss about our topic in different views.

How did we conduct our research?

After we chose the topic, we needed to research the reference and sources to work on our project. We planned to get information and sources from museums, memorials, libraries and the internet. I visited a library which is an island. However, there were no sources that we can use for our topic. So We almost used internet as a method of getting sources. I also bought two books which are able to be used as primary sources. One of the books is really old one named Book on Maehun Yun Bong Gil, which is published 20 years ago. This book contained many photographs and newspapers that support our topic.

How did we choose our category and create your project?

We chose the website category as the best option for presenting our project. We thought website would be good for us because both of us could work on our project anywhere at anytime even when we are not together. In the beginning,we made an account for NHD weebly. Then, as this was first time for us, so we searched how to build and design website. Then we began to construct the whole website. We chose the theme, fonts, tabs , and title for our website. After we built the basic structure, we utilized our sources such as books, websites, and photographs to fill up the pages. We also decided to put video and background music to provide more indifferent types of expressions. We need to fill up a lot, however, even though we need a lot of work to do, we had a lot of fun preparing and building the project.

How does our topic relate to the NHD theme? This years NHD topic is about rights and responsibilities and this relates to our topic because Yun Bong Gils assassination was one of the significant event that lead declaration Koreas independence and asking responsibilities about Japaneses invading. There were many other topics that we can choose for NHD, however we decided to choose uncommon topics to teach one of Korea-Japan history to students from different cultures.
