DETAILED LESSON PLAN

GRADE 7

CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the relation of geographical location
of the Philippines to its environment.

LEARNING COMPETENCY
The learner should be able to recognize that soil, water, rocks, coal and other fossil
fuels are Earth materials that people use as resources. (S7ES-IVb-3)

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of 60 minutes discussion the student should be able to;

 distinguish the different types of natural resources;

 identify the effects of human activities on natural resources; and
 recognize the importance of natural resources in our lives.

DAILY ROUTINE “Good morning Ma’am!”

“Good morning class!”

ACTIVE REVIEW

“Before we proceed to our new topic, who

among you can share their knowledge about
our previous discussion which is all about the
energy resources.”
“Ma’am when we talk about energy resources
it pertains to the abundance of resources in the
Philippines which is related to geologic
structures”
Very Good, anyone who can give some
examples?
Ma’am some examples are; solar energy, heat
from the ground or geothermal energy,
hydropower, hydroelectric which is energy
coming from falling water, wind energy and
natural gas.
Very good! It seems that you all learned from our
discussion yesterday, let’s move now to our next
topic.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY

ELICIT
“You probably notice by now in your years of
being a human, that human being need a staff
to live, are you agree with that?”

“Yes Ma’am humans need a lot of staff to live.

We need food, water, shelter and a lot more,

“You’re right, but were all this staff comes from

and why it comes from our very own earth?”
“We live on a planet that has all the staff we
need to survive, fresh water to drink, food on
trees and a lot more.”
“Very well said and we called it Natural .
Resources, Class who among you has an idea
about Natural Resources?”

“Ma’am it defined as a form of energy or

matter, which is essential for the functioning of
organisms, populations and ecosystems.”
“Precisely! Are you aware class that Natural
Resources can be divided into two categories
such as Renewable and Non-renewable
resources?”
“No Ma’am we are not aware, what’s the
difference with them?”
“Well that’s the question

ENGAGE
MOTIVATION

“But before that, let’s have first an activity,

would you like it?”
“Yes Ma’am”
“Good to hear that, our activity is called “GUESS
ME PLEASE”, here is the mechanics I will flash
some set of jumbled letters, your task is to
determine what it is in given time, there will be
two group, each group must select a
representative to answer nor guess what could
be the right answer after I give the cue. Failed to
answer in a given time doesn’t mean that the
next group will answered it. Each group has only
five chances to answer and you only have 20
seconds to answer.

“Is the instruction clear?”

“Yes Ma’am”
“Okay, let’s start!”

INTRODUCTION OF THE TOPIC

our lesson objectives for today.

At the end of 60 minutes discussion the student

should be able to;

will have an activity.

“For your next activity, I will group you into 3, the

title of our activity is entitle “GUESS WHERE DO I
BELONG” each group has a set of word inside
the envelope, your task is to determine whether
it is an example of Renewable or Nonrenewable
resources, you only have 5 minutes to the task, is
that clear class?”

EXPLAIN
ANALYSIS

“How did you find the activity class?

“It was fun Ma’am and it makes us think.”
“Good to know that, so now let’s have a short
discussion regarding the activity that you
conduct.”

“Again anyone who can describe Non-

Renewable resources?”
“Ma’am a non-renewable resource is a natural
resource that cannot be re-made or re-grown
at a scale comparable to its consumption.

“That’s right! Can you give an example?”

“Ma’am coal, petroleum and natural gas are
considered as non-renewable.”
“How can you say so?”
“Because Ma’am they cannot be replenished in
a short period of time and these are called the
fossil fuels.
“Exactly! If nonrenewable resources are
resources that cannot be re-made at a scale
comparable to its consumption, how about the
renewable resource?”
“Ma’am Renewable resources are natural
resources that can be replenished in a short
period of time.”
“That’s correct! Can you give an example of
renewable resources?”

“Ma’am solar, wind and water.”

“Exactly! When we talk about the natural
resources, those are the resources that exist
without actions of humankind. Means that it is
provided by our environment. Categorized into
two which is the renewable and non-renewable
we already tackled the difference between the
two so let's find out if your answer is correct so
let’s check your work.
ABSTRACTION

Let’s have another activity called “building

blocks”
This will go on like this, with the same group
earlier, each group will form a pyramid with the
use of plastic cups, those cups represent
different natural resources such as water, air,
coal, and oil, you must arrange it according
from the most use to not. After arranging it, you
are going to get one of the blocks you use the
most and observe what will happen. Are you
ready?

“Okay you may now start”

“Yes Ma’am!”
(Students were doing the activity.)
“What did you notice upon doing the activity?”

“Ma’am we notice that the blocks or cups

represent the natural resources in our
environment and that those were very essential
for our living.”

“Okay nice observation, another idea?”

“Ma’am once we removed one of the blocks
the pyramid will surely destroy, and it will no
longer become balance. That means we need
to conserve our natural resources.”
“Very good! That is correct We need to
conserve our Natural Resources because it is
the main source of our daily needs. We need to
conserve it because they are limited only.
Considering man's usual consumption of these
resources. There will come a time that there are
some natural resources that will be gone.”

APPLICATION

“We all know and aware that we are very lucky

for having such enormous gift given to us by our
creator, but we human tend to avoid it, am I
right?”
“Yes Ma’am we tend to overuse things around
us, especially the natural resources we have.”
“Very Good!”
“So now, I prepared here a video presentation
all about the effects of human activities, all you
have to do is take notes the important details
for we are going to have an activity after that.

“Is that clear class?”

“Yes Ma’am”
(Playing the video presentation)
(Students are watching the video attentively)

“How did you find the video?”

“It was very interesting Ma’am, and it explain
the effect of human activities.”
“Very good!
“What are some activities of human that affect
the natural resources of the environment?”
“Ma’am common activities we human do that
contributes to the extinction of natural resources
were the excessive use of papers that leads to
cutting up more trees, huge number of cars that
needed large amount of oil needed, and so on.
Very well said! Another?
Ma’am we are surrounded by almost 97
percent of water but because of it we tend to
use large amount of water without taking care
of it, instead we usually throw garbage on it that
lead to pollute water.
Okay another?
Ma’am with the idea of having such resources
we become lazy and materialistic, not knowing
that we are destroying our environment already.
Very Good! Who has another idea?
Ma’am that video remind us to be aware on
everything we do, too much is not good, we
must know and learned how to balance things
around us so that we cannot harm others,
remember that whatever we do, it will reflect to
our environment, and we’re the only one whose
going to suffer.
Very Good! That’s right remember the saying” if
you want others to respect you, you must also
learn to respect other, nor vice versa. Respect
and awareness is what we need in order to
have a better life and maintain balance so as
to ensure that the future generation will surely
have a better life.
