A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science Grade 7

Date: January 16, 2020

Time: Saturn 10:00-11:00/Mercury 11:00-12:00
I. Objectives
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the relation of
geographical location of the Philippines to its environment.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the location
of the Philippines in relation to the climate, weather, and seasons.
C. Learning Competency
(Code) S7ES-Iva-1

D. Specific Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the use of globe and its parts
b. Demonstrate how Philippines is located using coordinate
system.
c. Appreciate the importance of globe in locating places
through the use of coordinate system
II. Content Location of the Philippines using coordinate system.

IV. LEARNING PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Routinary Activities:
Good morning class! Good morning Sir.
How are doing you today? We’re doing fine Sir.
Im glad you are.
Before we start, may I know who’s absent for
today? None Sir.
Okay! Very good!
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting a
new lesson (ELICIT)
Do you still remember are lesson yesterday? Yes Sir.

Okay. What is it all about then?

Electricity and charges Sir.

And what is electricity? An energy produced by moving charges.

Positive charge and negative charge Sir.
What are the two types of charges? Friction, Conduction and Induction Sir.

What are the three methods of charging?

Yes Sir.
Okay very good. Are your ready for our next
topic?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
(ENGAGE)

(Present a globe.)

Class do you know what is this? Yes Sir. It is a globe.

What does globe represents? It represents the Earth Sir.

When you are looking at a globe, what do you We see names of countries, oceans lines Sir.
see?
Yes Sir.
Can anyone please point where the Philippines
is using this globe?

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new

lesson (EXPLORE)
Group task #1. STUDENTS ANSWER:
Label the parts of the globe.

 EQUATOR
 LATITUDE
 LONGITUDE
 PRIME MERIDIAN
 NORTH POLE
 SOUTH POLE
 NORTHERN HEMISPHERE
 SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
 WESTERN HEMISPHERE
 EASTERN HEMISPHERE
 DEGREES
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing
new skills #1 (EXPLAIN)

Okay class, now that you already labeled the Equator - the longest central horizontal line
parts of the globe let us now define each part. that has the value of zero degrees latitude. It is
equally distant to the North and South Pole.

Latitude – are lines extended horizontally from

east to west on a globe or map.

Longitude – are lines extended vertically from

north pole to south pole.

Prime Meridian – the longest central vertical

line that has value of zero degrees longitude.

North Pole - The northernmost point of the

world, which is 90 degrees away from the
equator and equidistant to the South Pole.

South Pole - The southernmost point of the

world, which is -90 degrees away from the
equator and equidistant to the North Pole.

Northern Hemisphere - The northern half of

the world and north to the equator.

Southern Hemisphere - The southern half of

the world and south to the equator.

Eastern Hemisphere - The eastern half of the

world and east to the prime meridian.

Western Hemisphere - The western half of the

world and west to the prime meridian.

Degree- Latitude and Longitude are measured

in degree to determine coordinates.

E. Discuss new concepts and practicing new

skills (ELABORATE)

Since you already know the parts of the globe

and its function. Let us now move on getting
the coordinate of a particular place.

GPS uses coordinate systems.

How to read coordinates.

When outlining the coordinates of a location,

the line of latitude is always given first
followed by the line of longitude.
Three common formats
1. Degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS)

Ex. 41°24’12.2″N 2°10’26.5″E

2. Degrees and decimal minutes (DMM)

Ex. 41 24.2028, 2 10.4418

3. Decimal degrees (DD)

Ex. 41.40338, 2.17403

Note: if directions are not indicated, it will be

determined by positive or negative numbers.
Positive indicates north and east while negative
numbers indicates south and west.

F: Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative

Assessment)

Group Task # 2
Student Answer:
Using your map, determine the location of the
Philippines using coordinate system. 12.8797° N, 121.7740° E

Correct Answer:
12.8797° N, 121.7740° E

G. Making Generalizations and abstraction

about the lesson.

Okay class, let us see if you learn something

today.

What is latitude? Are lines extended horizontally from east to

west on a globe Sir.
Very good.

How about longitude? Are lines extended vertically from north pole
to south pole.
Very good.

What do you call the longest central horizontal Equator Sir.

line that has the value of zero degrees latitude?

How about the longest central vertical line that

has the value of zero degrees longitude. Prime Meridian Sir.

Okay. I think you are now ready for your quiz.

H. Evaluating Learning

Bring out ¼ piece of paper. Student Answers:

1. It is the longest central horizontal line 1. Equator

that has the value of zero degrees 2. Latitude
latitude? 3. Prime Meridian
2. Are lines extended horizontally from 4. Longitude
east to west on a globe. 5. 12.8797° N, 121.7740° E
3. longest central vertical line that has the
value of zero degrees longitude.
4. lines extended vertically from north
pole to south pole.
5. Philippine coordinates.

I. Additional activities for application or

remediation (EXTEND)

What are the continents and oceans of the

world?

V. Remarks
VI. Reflection
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No of learners who require additional
activities for remediation who scored below
80%
