SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 7 SCIENCE

Date of Class Observation: January 28, 2020

COMPETENCY: Demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using coordinate system.

CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates understanding of the relation of


geographical locations of the Philippines to its environment.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the
location of the Philippines in relation to the climate, weather and seasons.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

1. Explain the difference of latitude and longitude, equator and prime meridian
2. Locate a country/city based on the given latitudes and longitudes.
3. Appreciate the importance of the globe/map in locating places.

C. Materials: Manila paper, pentel pen, ballpen, globe

Terms:
Globe is a representation of the Earth.
Latitude is an imaginary line (horizontal) that runs in an east and west direction.
Longitude is an imaginary line (vertical) that runs in north and south direction.
Equator is a line that separates Northern and Southern hemispheres.
Prime Meridian is a line that separates Eastern and Western hemispheres.
E. Motivation
The teacher will show a globe.

F. Lesson Proper
1. Present to the class pictures about the latitude and longitude, equator
and prime meridian.
2. The class will identify the following:
a. Latitude
b. Longitude
c. Equator
d. Prime Meridian
3. The teacher will give an example of the details in locating a nearest
city/country with its latitude and longitude.
G. Activity
1. Present to the class the rubrics of the activity.
2. Divide the students into 4 groups.
3. Each group will be given a world map.
4. Each group will be given 15 minutes to answer the activity.
Directions: Locate and give the nearest city/country through the given latitude and
longitude below.
Given: Latitude, Longitude Nearest City/Country
1. 41°N, 74°W
2. 56°N, 38°E
3. 12°S, 77°W

1. What does the globe represent?
2. What is the reference line when determining the latitude? Longitude?

I. Abstractions (Pass the Box)


Directions:
1. Let the students do the activity entitled “Pass the Box”.
2. The box has strips of paper where the written term is found.
3. The students will sing a song “It’s a Small World”.
4. As the music starts, students will pass the box to their classmates.
5. When the music stops, the student who handed the box will pick a strip of
paper and read the word.
6. Then, the student will post the strip of paper (with the term) on the board
according to its correct definition/meaning.
7. The following terms are:
a. Globe

c. Longitude
d. Equator
e. Prime Meridian
