A. Reviewing previous Let the students recall the lesson last meeting by asking them to
lesson or presenting the complete the table below:
new lesson
LATITUDE NAME
0°
23.5°N
23.5°S
66.5°N
66.5°S
B. Establishing a To establish the importance of longitudes, the students will ask the
purpose of the lesson following questions regarding the importance of latitude:
C. Presenting 1. Can you still the importance of latitudes in locating places on earth?
examples/instances of the
new lesson 2. How about the importance of latitude in determining the climate in
certain parts of the world?
D. Discussing new Show the students the following photo and ask the follwoing question
concepts and practicing below:
new skills #1
1. How do you differentiate latitudes from longitudes?
2. What do you call the line that divides the Earth into the eastern and
western hemisphere?
E. Discussing new The teacher will then provide a discussion on the lines of longitudes.
concepts and practicing
new skills #2 Lines which run from north to south are called longitudes. The
longitude which passes through Greenwich, England is called the
prime meridian.
The
prime meridian and antemeridian
divide the globe into its eastern and
western hemispheres. The right side
of the prime meridian is the eastern
hemisphere while the left side is the
western hemisphere.
F. Developing Mastery Activity 1: Find me in the Longitudes!
(Leads to Formative
Assessment) Study the diagram below. Determine the longitude of the identified
points on the globe by indicating the number of degrees the point is
from the prime meridian and its direction E (east) or W (west) from the
prime meridian.
1. How did you locate each of the points from the map of the
Philippines?
I. Evaluating learning Direction: Provided are the Longitudes and Latitudes of certain points
in the map of the world. Give the respective point that corresponds to
the given coordinates.
