Day: Tuesday

I. OBJECTIVES
The relation of geographical location of the Philippines to its environment
Content Standards

Performance Standards Analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines in relation to the climate, weather, and
seasons
MELCS
Demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using a coordinate system.

Learning Competencies Specific objectives

/ Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:
 Define the terms latitude and longitude.
 Demonstrate the ability to accurately plot coordinates using latitude and longitude on a
map.
 Develop an appreciation for the role of latitude and longitude play in navigation,
geography, and understanding global connections.

IV. PROCEDURES
GUESS THE PLACES THROUGH EMOJIS!

ELICIT

Suppose you and your friends are planning a swimming outing to an unfamiliar location, as none of
you have visited the place before. To ensure you don't get lost, what are the various tools you would
use to navigate your way around?
ENGAGE
 The class will be divided into three groups, and each group will attempt to solve the
given puzzles assigned to them. Each team will be given three minutes to finish the task.

Have you ever wondered why different places on Earth have different climates and weather
patterns? For example, why do some countries experience snow while others, like the Philippines, do
EXPLORE not?

 The teacher will actively encourage the students to engage in critical thinking,
emphasizing the importance of analyzing information thoughtfully and logically.
The teacher will initiate the discussion by asking questions such as, "How can we determine the
position of a place on Earth?" Additionally, the teacher will inquire about the various tools that can
be used to pinpoint the location of a place accurately.

The teacher will introduce key vocabulary words.

 Latitude is the angular distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator. It is
measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds. The greatest possible latitudes are 90° N and
90° S. Different latitudinal positions on maps or globes, equidistant circles are plotted and
drawn parallel to the equator and each other. These are known as the parallels, or
parallels of latitude.

 Longitude is a system of vertical lines used to measure the distance east or west of the
Prime Meridian in degrees. It ranges from 0 degrees at the Prime Meridian to 180 degrees
eastward and westward.
EXPLAIN
 Equator is also called the great circle around the Earth that is equidistant from the
geographic poles and lies in a plane perpendicular to the Earth's axis. It divides the Earth
into the Northern and Southern hemispheres and forms the imaginary reference line on the
Earth's surface from which latitude is considered. It is the line with 0° latitude
 The prime meridian is the imaginary line used to indicate 0° longitude that passes
through Greenwich and terminates at the North and South poles. It is measured in
degrees, minutes, and seconds. It is used as the reference for all other meridians of
longitude, which are numbered east or west of it. This also serves as the basis for the
world's standard time zone system.

Earth’s grid or coordinate system can be described and determined by means of the position or
location of any place on the Earth's surface.

 The students will actively participate during the discussion.
