Subject: SCIENCE Grade Level: GRADE 7
Date: Day: 1
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of the relation of geographical
locations of the Philippines to its environment
Performance Standard: The learners should be able to analyze the advantage of the location of
the Philippines in relation to the climate, weather, and seasons
Competency: Demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using a coordinate
system. (S7ES-IVa-1)
I. OBJECTIVES
Knowledge Differentiate the lines of latitude and lines of longitude.
Skills Locate the Philippines using the lines of latitude and lines of longitude
(coordinate system)

F. Developing Activiy 2
Mastery Instruction: Label the illustration below.
H. Making The lines that run across the grid -- the flat lines -- are lines of latitude.
Generalizations The Equator is an example of a line of latitude. The Equator is the
and latitude line that divides Earth into two hemispheres, the northern
abstractions hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. The Equator is the 0 point of
about the latitude. Latitude lines North of the Equator are referred to as North
lesson latitude; latitude lines South of the Equator are referred to as South
latitude.
The lines that run up and down on the grid -- the tall lines -- are lines
of longitude. The lines of longitude are also called meridians. The Prime
Meridian, which passes through Greenwich, England, is the longitude
line that divides Earth into two hemispheres, the eastern hemisphere and
the western hemisphere. The Prime Meridian is the 0 point of longitude.
Longitude lines East of the Prime Meridian are referred to as East
longitude; longitude lines West of the Prime Meridian are referred to as
West longitude.
J. Additional Read and understand the following statements. Identify which describes
Activities for Latitude and which are for Longitude. Copy each statement to its
application or corresponding column. (see attachment 3)

VI. REFLECTION
ATTACHMENT 1:
Objective:
After performing this activity, you should be able to describe the location of the Philippines
using latitude and longitude.
What to use:
o Globes or World Map
What to do:
1. Study the image of a globe or world map on the right. Then get a real globe
and identify the parts that are labelled in the image. Be ready to point them
out when your teachers asks you.
2. After studying the globe and the image on the right, try to define “equator” in
your own words. Give your own definition when your teacher asks you.
3. The “northern hemisphere” is that part of the world between the North Pole
and the equator. Show the northern hemisphere on the globe when your
teacher asks you.
Prepared by: JULIET B. GANTALAO, La Libertad TVS
4. Where is the “southern hemisphere”? Show the southern hemisphere on the globe when your
teacher asks you.
5. Study the drawing on the right. It shows the lines of latitude.
ATTACHMENT 2:
Evaluation: Answer the following questions:
1. True or False? The equator is the main line of longitude.
2. True or False? The prime meridian cuts the world into west and east longitudes.
3. This is the main line of longitude.
A: equator B: northern hemisphere C: prime meridian
4. Which line cuts the world into north and south latitude?
A: equator B: prime meridian C: longitude
5. The intersection of the Earth's latitude and longitude lines form a _________.
A: grid B: map C: hemisphere
6. Longitude lines run from __________ to ___________, pole to pole.
A: east, west B: north, south C: east, south
7. This marks the location of the equator on Earth.
