Semi-detailed Lesson Plan

SCIENCE 7
Grade 7 – Quartz
April 28, 2022
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Distinguish latitude and longitude;
b. Identify the location of regions, tropics, and circles in the globe’s parallel through an
activity called “Name Me” and “Label Me”; and
c. Recognize the importance of learning about the position of our country relative to
the location of regions, tropics and circles in the latitude.
II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic : The Coordinate System

MELC : Demonstrate how places on Earth may be located using a coordinate
system

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Greeting
The teacher will greet the class and will ask a volunteer to lead for a prayer.

b. Review
 What was our topic yesterday?
 What did you learn about the lesson?
 How will you apply the lesson in your daily activities?
c. Motivation

B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
Learning Task 1. The students will undergo an activity called “Name Me”. They
are going to identify the appropriate term/value for each definition by pasting it
on the blank, before the given meaning. After which, a representative from each
group will present their output. (10 minutes)

The teacher will make sure to facilitate the students on their activity. Social
distancing and hand disinfection is necessary right after the activity.

b. Analysis
For the students to know the right answers from their previous activity, the
correct definition and values will be presented to them. They will be the one to
count their score and re-arrange the wrong answers. They will jot down the
important keys on the Science Notebook (5 minutes) prior to the next Learning
Task. The teacher will shortly discuss the difference between Latitude and
Longitude and point out the position of regions, circles and tropics in the Earth’s
hemisphere. (10 minutes)

Learning Task 2. “Label Me”.

To assess the learning of the students regarding with the coordinate system, the
same group of students will do the activity. They will label the blank Earth Model
below using the terms and values (strips of paper) given to them. A leader will
present the output to the class. (10 minutes)

Afterwards, the teacher will check the output of each group and will give their
score.

c. Abstraction
Learning Task 3. “Think About Me!”
To generalize the lesson and to connect it to the next topic, questions will be
answered by the students individually. (15 minutes)
*How can you locate the Philippines in a Globe or Asian Map?
*On which part of the Globe do you think the Philippines is located?
*Why is it so hot here in the Philippines and in the other near countries?

d. Application
Learning Task 4. “2 Pics, 1 Word”
The students will identify what certain term the 4 pictures depict. The pictures
will serve as clue and includes the jumbled letters for them to arrange. (10
minutes)

True or False. Draw if the statement is true and if it is false.
_______1. Longitude measures east or west of the Prime Meridian.
_______2. Latitude is measured by using parallels.
_______3. The equator is the base line for longitude.
_______4. The latitude of the equator is 0 degrees.
_______5. Latitude must be described as N or S unless it is the equator.
_______6. Longitude and latitude are used in locating places.
_______7. Prime Meridian is the starting point of longitude with measurement of zero
degree.
_______8. An equator is an imaginary line in zero degree latitude in-circling the earth
between North Pole and South Pole.
_______9. North hemisphere is located between the part of South Pole and Equator.
_______10. South Pole is the northern part of the earth which is located in the upper
part of the globe.
