Time and Dates December 14, 2021 Quarter Fourth

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the
relationship of geographical location of the Philippines to
its environment.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the
location of the Philippines in relation to the climate,
weather, and seasons.
C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives The learners should be able to:
Write the LC code for each S7ES-IVa-1: demonstrate how places on Earth may be
located using coordinate system;
II. CONTENT The Philippine Environment
-Location of the Philippines using a coordinate system

IV. PROCEDURES
A.Reviewing previous lesson or *The teacher will show a short videoclip about Philippine
presenting the new lesson Environment from YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zAZV51aYwE
B. Establishing a purpose for the *The teacher will ask the learners motive questions:
lesson
Where can we find the Philippines? What is the location of
the Philippines in the map or globe in terms of latitude and
longitude?
C. Presenting examples/instances of Guess What?
the new lesson
Mechanics: The teacher will present six pictures about
earth, globe, map, latitude and longitude, seasons and
weather. The students should guess the pictures with the
help of clues below them.

What we already know?

Mechanics: The students will answer 5 multiple choice

items. The teacher will show the correct answers to
determine the current knowledge of the students about
the topic.
D. Discussing new concepts and *The teacher will have a short discussion about the
practicing new skills #1 Location of the Philippines using a coordinate system.

E. Discussing new concepts and Where in the World is the Philippines?

practicing new skills #2
Mechanics: The teacher will show map of the world. The
students will determine the location of the Philippines in
the world map and give the estimated latitude and
longitude to the nearest degree.

Map of the Philippines

Mechanics: The teacher will show a map of the Philippines.

The students will find the location of different cities:
Manila, Tacloban City and Davao City in terms of estimated
latitude and longitude.
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to The students will answer the following:
Formative Assessment 3)
1. Describe the lines of latitude based on the definition and
drawing.
Lines of latitude:
-are parallel to the equator to each other
-form circles that are smaller at the poles
-do not meet
2. What is the reference line when determining the
latitude?
(Let the students trace the lines of latitude on the globe)
3. Describe the lines of longitude based on the definition
and drawing.
Lines of longitude:
- are not parallel to the equator to each other
- do not form circles
-meet at the poles (or extend from pole to pole)
-have the same length
4. To the right of Prime Meridian, the longitude is written
this way: 15⁰E (15 degrees east), 30⁰E (30 degrees east),
and so on. To the left of the Prime Meridian, the longitude
is written as 15⁰W(15 degrees west), 30⁰W (30 degrees
west), and so on. On your globe, find longitude 180⁰. What
does this longitude represent?
Starting the Prime meridian, moving 180 degrees to the
east or to the west brings you to longitude 180⁰. Like the
Prime Meridian, longitude 180⁰ represents the boundary
of the eastern hemisphere and western hemisphere. The
Prime Meridian and longitude 180⁰ are on opposite sides
of the world.
5.Compared to the size of the world, Manila is just a tiny
spot and its location may be described using a pair of
latitude and longitude. But how would you describe the
location of an “area” such as the whole Philippines?
Locating cities such as Manila is easy. Manila is just a
“spot” on the globe. But locating the whole country is not a
“spot”, it is an “area”. Since the boundary of the
Philippines is irregular, we can simplify things by drawing a
rectangle around it. One way is by getting the latitude and
longitude of each corner of the rectangle.

G. Finding practical applications of *Map projections

concepts and skills in daily living *Satellite imagery repositories

H. Making generalizations and Ask students to summarize the lessons.

abstractions about the lesson

I. Evaluating learning Individual Activity. Identify the places on the map using
the given coordinates. (10 points)
J. Additional activities for application Assignment #!.
or remediation Directions: In a short bond paper, complete the table. Use
your world map as your reference.

(Note: The correct answers are in blue color)

A. Identify the city nearest to the following rounded
latitudes and longitudes.
Given: Latitude, Longitude Nearest city
41⁰ N and 74⁰ W New York
56⁰ N and 38⁰ E Moscow
12⁰ S and 77⁰ W Lima

B. To the nearest whole degree, estimate the latitude

and longitude of the following cities.

Given: City Estimated latitude,

longitude
Tokyo 36⁰ N, 140⁰ E
Melbourne 39⁰ S, 146⁰ E
Singapore 1⁰ N, 104⁰ E
