DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL PHYSICS II

Teacher: Time Duration: 1 hr.

Date: February 20, 2022
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of waves.
B. Performance The learners should be able to use theoretical and, when feasible,
Standards experimental approaches to solve multi-concept, rich-context problems
using concepts from electromagnetic waves, optics, relativity, and atomic
and nuclear theory.
C. Learning STEM_GP12PMIId-31: Define mechanical wave, longitudinal wave,
Competencies/ transverse wave, periodic wave, and sinusoidal wave.
Objectives
Learning Objectives: In this lesson, the students will be able to:
 Describe the properties of waves;
 Explain the characteristics of the two categories of waves; and
 Demonstrate mastery on differentiating transverse from
longitudinal waves.
II. CONTENT Subject Matter: Mechanical Waves
III. LEARNING
RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Text within this material comes from the following:
 CONCEPTUAL PHYSICS 7TH ED. – Paul Hewitt, HarperCollins,
1993
 PHYSICS 4TH ED. – Douglas C. Giancoli, Prentice Hall, 1995
 PRINCIPLES OF PHYSICS 4TH ED. – Raymond A. Serway and
John Jewett, Thomson, 2006
2. Learner’s Material Work sheets
B. Other Learning Laptop, TV
Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminaries a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Setting of Standards
Class Rules
B. Recall The teacher will ask about the previous discussion. He will then ask
questions regarding the previous discussion.

Presentation of the new lesson.

C. Establishing a Reading of the lesson objectives by the students.

Purpose for the
Lesson
D. Engage The teacher will show a video clip to the students.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXafPA7BAx8
The students are to observe the video and share their observations.
Guide questions:

1. What are your observations on the video clip?

2. What comes into your mind when you see the water ripple?
3. What other things/situation you can give that present/perform/has
waves?
E. Proper Discussion Activity

Students will be given an activity sheet for them to answer.

Analysis

1. How did you find the activity?

2. What do you think our lesson is about based on the activity?

Abstraction

 Teacher will discuss about the properties of waves.

wavelength (λ), frequency (f), wave speed (v), period (T)
 Presentation of the anatomy of wave.
 The two categories of waves:
Mechanical Waves
Electromagnetic Waves
 Focus on discussing Mechanical Waves.
 Wave motion categories:
Transverse Waves
Longitudinal Waves

Application

The students will be provided with work sheets.

Test I. Answer the following questions:

1. In your own words, what is (a) mechanical wave? (b)

electromagnetic wave?
2. In few sentences, compare mechanical wave form
electromagnetic wave.

Test II. Create a graphic organizer (venn diagram, mind map, etc.)
presenting the similarities and differences of Transverse and Longitudinal
Waves.

F. Agreement The students will be instructed to read in advance about the topic sound in
physics.
