IV. LEARNING PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
Routinary Activities:
Good morning class! Good morning Sir.
How are you doing today? We’re doing fine Sir.
I am glad you are.
Before we start, may I know who is absent
today? None Sir.
Very good!
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting a
new lesson (ELICIT)
Before we move on to our new lesson, let us
have a short review of what we have discussed
last meeting.

Do you still remember are lesson last meeting? Yes sir.

What is it all about then?

Very good. It is all about monsoons.

And what is a monsoon?

A monsoon is a seasonal shift in the prevailing
wind direction, that usually brings with it a
Correct. different kind of weather.
We have 2 different monsoons. What are they? The Northeast Monsoon or Amihan and the
Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
Which monsoon brings heavy rainfall?
Correct Habagat sir.

Why do you think habagat brings heavy rains?

Very good. Because habagat passes over the bodies of
water before it reaches the Philippines.
How about the movement of air. How does air
moves on a lower pressure area and high The air moves towards the LPA and away from
pressure area? HPA sir.
Correct.

I think you are now ready for our next lesson.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
(ENGAGE)

But before we proceed to our new lesson, let us

play a game. Let us call this game “hangman.”

I am going to show you blanks. Each blank

represents a letter. All blanks represents a word
or group of words. Each group will be given a
chance to give a letter, once the letter was
included in the hidden word, they will again
give another letter. If the letter was not
included in the hidden word, a part of
“hangman” will be revealed. Make sure to
guess the right word before the hangman
completes. The group who will guess each
word will earn points.

Words/phrases:
EQUATOR
HEMISPHERE
SUMMER SEASON
TROPIC OF CANCER
INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new
lesson (EXPLORE)

Okay class, our lesson for today is all about

ITCZ or Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Do you know Mang Tani and Kuya Kim?

Yes sir.
Who are they?
Correct.
Weather forecaster sir.
Have you heard them say this Intertropical
Convergence Zone?
Yes sir.
Do you have any idea about ITCZ?

What is it about then? Yes sir.

Yes it is.
It is all about the weather.
And for us to have better understanding about
intertropical convergence zone. Let us define
what it is.

For your first activity, I want you to complete

the definition of ITCZ using the jumbled
phrases provided to you. The group who make
the right definition will earn points.

“generally near the equator”

“is a belt of low pressure” Student answers:
“Intertropical Convergence Zone”
“which circles the Earth”
“where the trade winds” Intertropical Convergence Zone is a belt of low
“of Northern and Southern Hemispheres come pressure which circles the Earth generally near
together” the equator where the trade winds of the
Northern and Southern Hemispheres come
Correct answer: together.
Intertropical Convergence Zone is a belt of low
pressure which circles the Earth generally near
the equator where the trade winds of the
Northern and Southern Hemispheres come
together.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #1 (EXPLAIN)
Now that we already know what is Intertropical
Convergence Zone, let us understand how
ITCZ starts and how it affects us over the year.
I have here an application showing ITCZ, the
air pressure and the precipitation which
happens all throughout the year. Listen
carefully because later on you are going to
answer some guided questions.

Now let us answer the guided questions.

1. On what tropic does Philippines
belong?
2. On what month does ITCZ enters the
Philippines?
3. On what month does ITCZ reached its
peak on Northern hemisphere?
4. What happens to the area where there is
ITCZ?
5. ITCZ follows what air pressure?
E. Discuss new concepts and practicing new
skills (ELABORATE)
Looking at the activity we did a while ago, you
noticed that the ITCZ follows a pattern over a
year. It goes above the equator during months
of April and goes back at the month of October.
Why do you think so? What is the factor that
affects the movement of the ITCZ? It is the rotation of the earth around the sun sir.
Excellent.

It is the earth’s rotation around the sun which

affects the movement of ITCZ.

For us to have a further knowledge about

Assessment)

about the lesson.

H. Evaluating Learning

I. Additional activities for application or

remediation (EXTEND)
Prepare for a long quiz tomorrow. Review our
past lessons started from global warming up to
ITCZ.

V. Remarks
VI. Reflection
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No of learners who require additional
activities for remediation who scored below
