III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity
Everyone, please stand and let us (prayer)
pray. Miss Arriane, please lead the
prayer.

Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

Please take your seats. Thank you!

How are you today? Great ma’am

Good to hear that.

I’m going to check the attendance.

Those who are not in their seats
will be marked absent.

Please pass your assignments in

front. At the count of 10 all papers (Students pass their assignment)
must be in. 1, 2, 3,…,10.

B. Review on the past lesson

Let’s recall our lesson yesterday.

What was our topic yesterday? Yesterday, we discussed about

monsoons.
Very good!

What are the two types of monsoons? The northeast monsoon or amihan and
southwest monsoon or habagat.

What’s the difference between the two Amihan brings cold air in the Philiippines
monsoons? because it comes from the northern part
around the area of Siberia and Mongolia.
On the other hand, habagat brings warm
air and lots of rain the western part of the
Philippines.
Okay very good! That was excellent.

Now, why did the wind change its The change in the wind’s direction is due
direction? to the change of low-pressure areas and
high-pressure areas.

Very Good!

C. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
Do you remember those days when during Yes ma’am. We usually get wet when
morning the weather would be so hot then we’re outside because we weren’t able to
suddenly, in the afternoon, it rains hard? bring umbrella since we didn’t expect that
it will rain.

Well, have you ever wondered why that Why, ma’am?

happens?

We will understand why, as we go on with

our lesson today.

2. Presentation
What we will discuss for today is about
Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ.

These will be our objectives for today.

Please read, everyone.

At the end of the lesson, the

learners will be able to (Students read the objectives)

1. Explain Intertropical Convergence

Zone.
3. Discussion
Are you familiar with Intertropical NO, ma’am
Convergence Zone?

Really? You haven’t heard of ITCZ ITCZ? I think I’ve heard it in a weather
before? forecast.

Okay, good! We usually hear it in weather

forecasts since it’s related to our weather.

Now, what is ITCZ? Everyone, please Intertropical Convergence Zone is a zone

converge.
Okay. Again, Intertropical Convergence
Zone is a zone or area where the air in the

tropics meet or converge.

For this lesson you must remember two
things. First, warm air rises and second, Yes, ma’am.
the surrounding air moves in to replace
the warm air. Okay?

Now, where do you think is the warmest

place on Earth? The equator.

Very good!

The warmest place in the Earth is found

somewhere near the Equator. Why do you Because the sunlight strikes directly in
think so? that area.

That’s right! Very good! If you look at this

illustration you will see that the equator
receives direct sunlight.

Since it is the warmest place on Earth,

what does it say about the air above that
area?
It means that the air above that area is
Very good! also warm.

Now, what happens to warm air?

Very good!
Warm air rises.
What happens after the warm air rises?

Very good! Since the warm air rises, the

air in the tropics move to the place where The surrounding air will move to replace
the warm air is rising. the rising warm air.

Please look at this illustration.

You remember where the tropics are, The tropics of Cancer and tropics of
right? Capricorn.

Somewhere near the equator the warm air

rises and the air in the tropics will move
and meet/converge in the zone where the
warm air is rising.

Do you understand? Yes, ma’am.

In time, the rising warm air forms clouds

which may lead to thunderstorms.

Now you know why weather forecasters

often blame the ITCZ for some heavy
afternoon rains. The band of white clouds
in the following picture shows the location
of the ITCZ.

Dou understand? Any questions? No questions ma’am.

Ok, then let’s proceed to our activity.

4. Activity
I want you to group yourselves into 5. In a
short bond paper, draw an illustration of (Perform the activity)
how ITCZ occurs. At the back of your
bond paper, write an explanation of your
illustration.

5. Generalization
Again, what is ITCZ? ITCZ or Intertroppical Convergence Zone
is the area where the air in the tropics
meet.

Why do the winds in the tropics meet? The ITCZ is between the two tropics. The
warm air rises in that area making the air
in the tropics move toward it to replace the
rising warm air.

Excellent!
6. Application
Since you already know about ITCZ, you Yes, ma’am.
should always remember to bring your
umbrellas now, especially on warm
months,

IV. Evaluation

Instruction: Answer the question in not less than 5 sentences. Write your answer in a ½
crosswise.

How does the ITCZ occur?

V. ASSIGNMENT
Read in advance about Intertropical Convergence Zone.
